Analysis And Ontological Evaluation of Some Basic Concepts ın the Outcomes of 2018 Geography Course Curriculum

The aim of this research is to reveal at which cognitive levels the key concepts of human, nature, environment and place are included in Bloom's taxonomy in the units of the 2018 geography curriculum. In addition, the noun elements in the outcomes related to the same concepts are classified according to ontological categories. In this research, document analysis, one of the qualitative research designs, was used. The data of the research was obtained from the 2018 Geography Curriculum. A total of 130 learning outcomes of the 2018 geography curriculum in the units for the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades were examined. Among these outcomes, 36 outcomes related to the concepts of human, nature, environment and place were identified. These 36 outcomes were examined and classified according to Bloom's taxonomy. In addition, the noun elements in the outcomes were identified and these conceptual expressions were classified according to ontological categories. It is seen that the key concepts of human, nature, environment and place in the geography course curriculum are located in different cognitive fields such as knowledge, comprehension, analysis, synthesis and evaluation, according to the classification targeted in the cognitive field. In addition, when the ontological evaluation of these key concepts in the geography course curriculum is made, it is noted that the noun elements are mostly concentrated in the ontological category of “process” and its subcategories. This result is very important in terms of reflecting the characteristics of geography science.
