Edutech Research recognizes the growing use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in academic research and writing. The journal has established the following policy to ensure transparency, integrity, and accountability in the use of such tools throughout the manuscript preparation and submission process. This policy is grounded in the guidelines issued by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and is consistent with the ethical standards upheld by major indexing organizations.

Use of AI in Manuscript Preparation

Authors may use generative AI tools and AI-assisted technologies (e.g., large language models, text generation tools) solely for the purposes of improving the language, readability, and clarity of their manuscripts. Acceptable uses include grammar and spell checking, language editing, and paraphrasing assistance.

The following uses are strictly prohibited:

  • Using AI tools to generate original research ideas, hypotheses, or conclusions
  • Using AI tools to fabricate, manipulate, or misrepresent data or findings
  • Using AI tools to conduct literature reviews or synthesize sources without independent verification
  • Using AI tools to write substantial portions of the manuscript without disclosure
  • Submitting AI-generated text as the authors' own original scholarly contribution

AI Cannot Be Listed as an Author

Generative AI tools and AI-assisted technologies do not meet the criteria for authorship established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and COPE. AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to Edutech Research. Responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of all submitted work rests solely with the human authors.

Disclosure Requirements

Authors who have used generative AI or AI-assisted tools at any stage of manuscript preparation must disclose this use transparently. The disclosure must be included in a dedicated statement within the manuscript, placed in the Acknowledgements section, using the following format:

"During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [name of AI tool] for the purpose of [specific use, e.g., language editing]. The authors have reviewed and take full responsibility for the content of the manuscript."

If no AI tools were used in the preparation of the manuscript, no disclosure statement is required.

AI in the Peer Review Process

Reviewers and editors must not use generative AI tools to evaluate, summarize, or process confidential manuscript content. The use of AI tools during the peer review process raises serious concerns regarding the confidentiality of unpublished research and is therefore prohibited. Reviewers who are uncertain about the appropriateness of using AI tools during their evaluation are advised to contact the editorial office prior to use.

Responsibility and Accountability

The use of generative AI tools does not diminish the authors' full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and ethical integrity of their submitted work. Authors are accountable for detecting and correcting any errors, biases, or inaccuracies that may have been introduced through the use of AI tools. Failure to disclose the use of AI tools in manuscript preparation will be treated as a violation of the journal's publication ethics policy and may result in rejection of the manuscript or retraction of a published article.

Policy Updates

Given the rapidly evolving nature of AI technologies and their applications in scholarly publishing, Edutech Research reserves the right to update this policy as needed to reflect developments in the field and emerging guidance from COPE, Scopus, Web of Science, and other relevant organizations. Authors are advised to consult the most current version of this policy prior to submission.
